Good morning! New home starts for the month of December came in at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 1.67 million, a 5.8% increase from November’s figure and a 28% increase year-over-year. New home permits for December increased by 4.5% from November’s number to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 1.71 million. Existing home sales – which comprise 90% of U.S. home sales – for the month of December rose by 0.7% from November’s reading to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 6.76 million units. Every single one of these numbers blew analysts out of the water! In 2020, both existing home sales and new home sales increased at their fastest yearly pace since 2006. The housing market remains strong, and inventory is historically low, struggling to keep up!
